Major Lighting Issues
Hi All, this is my first post and am looking for some advice from you seasoned Volvo experts out there.
I have a 2004 S40 1.9TD with multiple light faults and these are as follows: Nearside dip beam not working, no front sidelights, no front or rear fog lamps or tell tales on instrument panel and headlamp switch green lamp doesn't illuminate when switched on no sound of any relays clicking on CEM except when flashing main beam. Tail lamps, main beam and offside dip beam ok. All fuses and bulbs are ok. Any clues would be greatly appreciated. Regards, Cheese. |

First port of call check the wiring loom that runs under the radiator as these often have corroded wires, the actual wires will be swollen indicating were the problem could be. Failing that check all the fuses in the engine bay fuse box and the ones in the cabin up near the bonnet release. Also have heard a faulty ciggerette lighter can cause odd faults to occur, hope this is of use.

Hey up,
I'd look at changing the CEM. There's a guy on here, Steven, who has an S40 CEM that I tested as working. Has front fogs etc. I have two CEM units, but they are from V40's. Should work, one has front fog light activated. If it's not the CEM, then the wiring loom is a great place to look. The bulb could be gone in the back of the lighting switch is all. Many Thanks, Daniel. |

Sorted
Hi again, some good news, found the cause of the problem! I found a couple of badly corroded and broken wires in the loom behind the washer bottle. cut out the bad bits and soldered in some new lengths and everything is now cushty.

I see many topics on this forum, about the infamous "corroded wiring loom under radiator".
Can someone point me where exactly is this mess located? Are we talking about heater inside dashboard or the one on front of the engine? And if only applies to RHD models or both? |
