Default Rattle / I hate GDi?

Ok, so I bought this V40 GDi about a month ago, and have yet another problem. I'm sure the GDi should have its own forum from looking around, but still.

Took it for a bit of a thrash yesterday, first time since i bought it that it's been worked pretty hard. Everything fine.

Start it up this morning, an almighty rattle for the first few minutes. As soon as it's warmed up, it went away. I started it again at work when it was cold, and it was back, and again when I left work.

It is most audible at about a constant 1800rpm, and sounds separate from the tappets. When the engine is slightly warmer, you can hear it when you release the throttle, and it almost sounds like a metal ball bearing rattling around.

Any ideas?

Surely that wouldn't stop when the engine was warm though?

I'm taking it into the garage tuesday night to leave it overnight so they can start it cold in the morning. Took it down after work today but the engine had warmed up by then and it had stopped.

I've got a years warranty from the dealer so if it is anything bad it should be fixed FOC anyway. It's an inconvenience though!

My 1.9TD with M5D box does the same, comes from around where the alternator/drivebelts are. Irritates the **** out of me, but replacing all the engine mounts sadly did not fix it for me as that seems to be a common source of it

Ah, another Westonian! I go to Hardings Autos. No-one else in Weston seems to have heard of them! It's down a side residential street off Locking Road.
I'm not a native Westoner so used hthem because the girlfriends family have always taken their cars there.
Been using them for about 5 years now on my cars and they've always been top notch.

By the way, the rattle still happens. Goes away after a few minutes though. After research etc I put it down to the oil change. They put 5w40 fully synthetic in, guessing there was some thicker oil in there before. Just takes a few mins for it to grease the loins again when i set off.
