my friend has just "inherited" a V40.
she had to get the battery changed, didn't know the code and let her son near the buttons and now the display reads "off".....

i will contact a volvo dealer for her (with the V5 document) and get the code, but does anyone have a radio manual so i get enter the code.
how do i remove the "off"?

Default off

you must leave the ignition switch on and the radio on for approximately 3 hours, it will then delete the off.
you will only be allowed three attempts to activate the radio code before it reverts back to off.

I will second what 4forty has said but ensure you do not start the engine while you are waiting, the key needs to be in auxillary position (the point before the dash lights come on) and then switch the radio on.

I took the time to give my car a bit of a clean while i waited for mine to unlock, as it can get boring just waiting for time to pass.

this is one of the very few things they should not charge for, i assume they want her to take the car plus reg docs to ensure she is the legal owner of the vehicle and also to make sure it is still the original stereo that is fitted.

Hope it all works out for her
