I have an update on mine - It again sorted it's self out!

All day it sat in my office car park almost on it's tyres at the rear. I started it up that evening and straightaway the compressor kicked in and started raising the rear. Since then it's been perfectly fine.

It's clear it's the cold temps freezing something within the compressor. Circa -7'c is when it has issues - but i feel it's when it's at these lower temperatures for longer times when the issue happens.

It's really bad that Volvo as a global company know of this issue. They accept it's an issue that affects customers in the USA but is not willing to do anything proactive about it anywhere else? It's clearly a major issue when they don't have any stocks anywhere - I suspect in main part because they keep having to replace them at £1200+ each time.

I do wonder whether there is some "quick" fix that could be done to try and keep the compressor from freezing? Could it be wrapped in some sort of insulation or perhaps change the mounting so it doesn't touch the outside metal of the car etc?

I've not personally investigated where or how it's mounted yet but i don't think the compressors are really that bad, it's just the environment they are in is causing the issue? That said, it's clearly not fit for purpose. If it fails in -7'c what about the nordic countries such as Sweden, Norway etc that get it much colder than us??
As you would expect I decided to write to Volvo UK to tell them of my experience and also why they could not supply a loan car as per their T&Cs.

Rather surprisingly they wrote back to inform me that both Volvo Assist and Lloyds Carlisle were separate agents of Volvo so they would need to respond. However, they did say they would forward my questions on my behalf.

Well that was 11 days ago and not even an acknowledgement so far... not the best service and seems to reflect my experience once again

Still no contact from Volvo Assist - looks like they have no intention to respond to any complaints.

Lloyds response was that it was fine when it left them (despite breaking down within hours of being 'fixed' with a directly related fault).

Very disappointing to be treated this was after spending c£85k on a car which can only last for 5 years/55K miles before being unusable.

Would I buy another - Probably not, I will go back to BMW.

Hi Safrane,(I'm on the Mas forum too)
Sorry to hear of your troubles with your 90. I'm sure Volvo will explain the chip shortage is the reason they can't get back to you with a response!
Good luck getting it sorted.
My current 5 series touring has air suspension on the rear - and it was a concern of being another thing to go wrong...
