Question C30 T5 Exhaust and remap advice

Hi Folk,

New to this forum but have owned my Volvo for some time now. The car is completely standard at the moment and I just wanted some advice before buying some parts as I have booked in for a remap at Celtic.

I have decided to go for a high-flow decat and large bore downpipe from C30mods and a Ferrita exhaust without the resonator. My concern was that the cars going to be way too loud and downey.. I ideally wanted to hear the roar when giving it some but quitter on idle and low revs.

Does any one have any experience with this setup? Any opinion is greatly appreciated.

Would you opt for the resonator in this scenario?

Thanks in advance peeps.

I'd keep the resonator to be honest.

You'll get huge motorway drone and will get very tiring after a while.

Also, do a bit of research on Celtic, some find them OK but a lot of people don't get good maps from them with very exaggerated figures (particularly the VAG lot)

On a T5 they're quoting 280hp from a stage 1, when everyone else quotes that for a stage 2, which then requires a full exhaust and intercooler change.

You're getting a good exhaust but would be worth putting an intercooler on as well to keep intake temps down, if 280hp is what it really achieves with that map.....

When these cars first came out, people were saying that 285bhp was the limit for K04 turbo due to pushing too much hot air.

I would also be quite skeptical of a claimed 280bhp from only a stage 1 remap.

Thanks, I will defo do some research!

I don't want that motorway drone, I do quite a lot of miles in mine and that would just be annoying, lol!

I did think to go for an intercooler also but could find many for sale apart for the airtech one!

Looking at their chart they hit a max power of 290bhp.

That's just too much without an exhaust or intercooler, I'd image heat issues would quickly become an issue if lots of fast road driving or track days were happening.

There's a reason why safe stage 1 levels on a standard car, for every other mapping company out there are 260bhp

Excellent thank you, I appreciate the responses! I will more than likely get one of those.. I don't want to get the car sorted half heartedly.

As for mapping, I may have a looksy and see what my options are as I would personally prefer to get it on a rolling road! I live in London so will need to see where I can go that isn't hours away!

... many exhaust to pick from. I cant mention on Ferrita exhaust as never tried it but depending on what you mentioned, I would stay with 2.5" system as a max mark really unless you plan on going bigger later on. I had a 2.5" powerflow / jetex system on mine previously which brought out a nice noise with 0 drone and it was a lot cheaper then the Ferrita system.

I think the Ferrita systems are about £500 and you get what you are given, for a similar price you could get a custom system made and tailored to how you want it (noise level / tips etc) ... so the choice is yours really.

I ended up replacing my 2.5" system for a custom 3" as I wanted to hear even more of that engine noise .... its a slipper slope. Pics of the exhaust in below thread

As for maps I would defenitly shop around, if you are close to Celtic tuning then thats great but any reputable mapper should be able to give you a good base map and a nice dyno print out would be good so you can see that power delivery for yourself. Convenience and safety are the main things you want really as if anything goes wrong, warning lights etc etc atleast your mapper is easy to get to (a lot of experience of this)

Good luck, these initial exhausts and map upgrades really revolutionise these cars.

As for intercooler, see if you can get a Bell Intercooler. They are harder to find but if you can, they are the largest you can fit behind the bumper before having to cut away at anything.

Well, you're in a Volvo, so mapping it will require hours of driving to find someone regardless

Unlike the Focus ST which is 85% the same car, Volvo decided to make the ECU as difficult as possible to map, so there really aren't that many out there that can do it.
