Default 5 cylinder or not?

Hi All,

Just curious is my engine is the 5 cylinder version or not, as getting several conflicting searches, especially as some reviews state 2013 for the change, and others 2013

It is a 2013 V60 D4 (registered october 2013), 119 CO2 and is the 160Bhp engine (163?)

i think in 2014 there was a facelift where the d4 went to a different engine and it went from the 163 to 180 but 4 cylinder?

is there a dead cert way to tell?

The 4-cylinder VEA D4 was initially rated at 181PS, so if your D4 is less than that then it's an older 5-cylinder version.

Most foolproof method to really know (and not have to rely on the supporting data being correct) would be to whip off the engine cover and count the injectors.

i was going to do that, but the clip things that holds the cover on appear to be impossiblle to remove without a special tool. however i press or prod they stay solidly locked

Push the centre circle of the clip in with something blunt, then the edge circle lifts up. Lift out by the outer edge circle and it should come away easily.

The handle end of a screwdriver works well

I have it in my mind that the 4 cylinder VEA diesel engine was first introduced for MY2015 (i.e. those cars sold from summer 2014) I believe your 2013 car will be the 5-cylinder D4.

If we have the chassis number, someone with Vida can decode it in seconds. Guessing over.

Or look it up on the DVLA site. 2400cc is 5 cylinder, 1969cc is the 4 cylinder
