Default Chrome trim below passenger vent

Just taken delivery of a MY20 Xc60 B5 (D) r-design pro and noticed an oddity that I thought was a fault. Basically there is a notch/groove in the slim chrome trim below the vent which hopefully you can see in the attached photo. I have looked at a few other cars in the Volvo used car area and I can see they all have this “feature” so I guess it’s supposed to be there. Anyone have an idea what the reason is for this groove ?

Thanks

Yep, as above, it’s a Swedish flag outline. I’d heard somewhere they incorporate this so the entire metal trim can be fitted as one piece rather than multiple glued together. I don’t know exactly how it works but it’s a neat solution all things considered!

Read somewhere that it’s an expansion joint, to allow for a long metal piece to expand/shrink due to temp variations. Cool touch nevertheless.
