S40/V40 Service Key
Hey,
I am currently in the process of buying a 2002 V40 SE. It comes with two folding keys (including fobs), but I would like to know whether or not these cars also came with a third 'service' key (just a key that opens the drivers door and starts the engine). I know my 2000-V V70 came with one, and I don't think asking the seller is a good idea, knowing how much he likes being a bit economical with the truth. If anyone can help I'd greatly appreciate it. i got my key for £60ish and then the programing on top of that. the service key, will start the car but, if the same as my old b*w will not open the glove box or the boot, also it was a little plastic job without an alarm zapper on it. dead handy to keep in you wallet incase you loose your keys. cheers scott |

Service Keys
As far as I know Volvo have generally always provided a service key. My fathers 1988 740 and my 1988 740 both had service keys, My current S60 and my fathers 940 again both have service keys. I think the main difference is in the length of one of the keys, which allows it to work in certain locks.

Unlike the rolling code type keys for the late 1998 models, for which the stealer recently quoted me £235 to supply and code. |

I often wonder how does the service key protect anything in the boot when you can access it by dropping the rear seat backs?
