Default Boot lock mechanism stopped working ?

Hello all, I have a slight problem in that my boot locking mechanism on my 91 240 has become stuck

What I mean by this is that I can't properly shut the boot because while it was in the open position the bit that moves on the tailgate has got stuck in the locked shut position.

All the rest of the central locking seems to be fine, but the boot will not shut completely, the handle on the inside of the boot doesn't seem to be doing anything either.

Has anyone seen this before ? If there's a simple fix I'm sure someone here knows it, otherwise I'm off to the scrappy.

As always, any help appreciated.

Regards

Ben

I assume we are talking estate here. If I understand the problem you effectively have the latch that holds it shut stuck across stopping the trailgate shutting. Put a cross head screwdriver or piece of bar in the hole where the mechanism would grip onto the bar of the catch. Use the handle as if you were undoing the tailgate (make sure locks are undone) and pull the screwdriver downwards - this will "undo" the latch.

Thanks Mike, you got it exactly right. I will try this once I'm at home this evening.

This may have just been a random failure due to a lack of lubrication however I did have cause the replace the spring that holds the hooked nip open on a 240 estate 1983 model. That car was exported to Russia. Regards Peter
