I would expect to have to pay £3-500, I would consider £600 to be a top figure. Estates tend to fetch better prices than saloons. It is important to check for any work needed and use this as a negotiation point. Its real value is how much you are prepared to pay against how little the vendor will accept. Be a bit of a tightarse I will never pay a high price - in our area the cars don't sell very well. My GLT below cost me £000.00 which I consider a very fair price. Well it was parked on the road without tax!

I've recently seen a good '91 go for over £1000, not too long ago my insurance company paid for repairs costing more than £1100 to my '90 estate (they sent an assessor to value the car)- it's all relative to condition and service history. The 'bargains' tend to have partial or absent service history - with full documentation they are still quite popular (in the south anyway).
If you know what you are looking for and do your own repairs then lack of authenticated dealer stamps need not put you off. I have even seen dealer stamps sell on ebay - make of that what you will! Easy ways to shorten the life of a redblock engine are - using the wrong type of antifreeze - allowing the engine to overheat - not changing the timing belt. Make sure all the interior and body work is in a condition you are happy with, forget the word mint and FSH, if it drives straight, goes around corners and stops on a die and the engine bay is clean and tidy it's a fair assumption all is well, I do agree with mike about prices, if possible I would hold out for a GLT if i were you, the price bracket your in 3-600 you should be able to get one, why buy a GL when you'll always be looking at the blanking plates thinking 'I could have had a switch there!!' and the GLT has so much better wheels and suspension as standard.. Sorry to go on, but guess what I started with..a gl.. and I regretted it, so I'm now retro fitting the GLT stuff.
Best of luck and hope all goes well with finding one |

If you want a late model (1990 on) Estate maybe best not to hang on for a GLT as they are extremely rare in RHD.
