Must admit I've been thinking of getting rid of the XC90 as we've had nothing but problems but all my research suggests the alternatives are even worse.

Don't want to be a hypocrite, as I am currently looking for an XC90, but we had the Hyundai Santa Fe 7 seater for 2 years and the reliability was excellent. Had a couple of niggly little things that were taken care of under warranty.

A 5 year unlimited mileage warranty and outstanding customer care. We also towed a large caravan and it did that no problem as well.

I'm not sure if this guys 4 wheel drive is working. So difficult to know sometimes. ;-)

Well it was OK in the preview pane. I'll try again

Here's the reason people still by the Disco 3 even though they may spend more time being repaired. Even more impressive as he actually stops on the slope......http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=STt7DmJeeVc

Brilliant if you don't mind paying the extra time and cost of maintainace.

All good and fine but is that the reason most 4x4's are bought or is it better to buy something like the xc90 which has 4x4 when you need it but is not a serious offroader .

Mine does everything I would need it to do. Does a bit of offroad when go shooting and copes. Will pull the caravan off a grass plot with no drama and in the snow it went places my mates Audi Quattro wouldnt!!! Just a pity about the fault issues with mine being its only drawback. Mind you the loaner is a diff car to drive. No hesitation, no knocking noise, no sticky steering etc etc so they do get it right from time to time.

To be fair Phil I think they get it right most of the time. I think your problems are related more to the techs looking at your car. If you can tell the difference between a good one and one that isn't right you'd expect they could as well. Most of the cars that come from the factory are fine but they really need to be more on the ball with the ones that arn't, and Volvo have a reputation for being one of the best at sorting customer problems. It's an industry wide problem as I see it though. Except for Rolls Royce in my experience but you have to pay serious cash for that kind of service.

All the best.

Roy

I seriously wonder how many offroaders ever see a blade of grass, never mind rough ground.

Someone must have statistics. I'll bet at least 90% are Chelsea Tractors.
