Default Need new flexipate fitted to torque convertor

Hi,
I've searched back quite a bit but did not see any info on this type of issue... basically the flexiplate (connected to the torque converter) on my 2003 D5 AWD XC90 need replaced. This is an expensive piece of work beacuse access to the flexiplate involves removing the gearbox.

My question is whether it's possible to remove the gearbox without taking the engine out. I have been told this it is possible by lowering the sub frame on the passenger side and taking the gearbox 'out the side'; don't know what that means exactly but was told that although it was difficult, (because of the weight) it should only take 6-8 hours to remove gearbox. Is this correct? The guys that have been working on it to date have taken much longer to remove the gearbox and have had to remove engine to do it. They said that is the only way to get the gearbox out, they are still not finished and I am losing any confidence I had in them

Thanks for any help!
