Default Combined P0172 & P0108 Codes

Recently purchased an early 98 V70R that has the two fault codes 0172 & 0108. I've dealt with a 0172 before in a later ME7 car and that turned out to be both a faulty MAF meter and a lambda sensor. I also noted that the car has a brand new MAF fitted - but it's one of those horrendous, cheap Chinese things off Ebay for 23 quid posted. Is it likely this would throw a combined code as per above.?? I believe a 0108 code is for a sensor behind the o/s headlight (barometric pressure sensor???)

I also think the car is in low boost mode..

These cars are well known for being picky about MAF quality so yes, as a first step I'd be wanting to put a proper MAF on it, get a proper Bosch one that is correct for the car and at least you know where you are then.

Actually, Ive just noted there is no atmosphere sensor fitted behind the o/s headlight - just a hanging connector! Where's the best place to source one, as Ebay comes up negative..

Assuming your car is supposed to have one, if it were me I'd get one from a scrappy - Lakes will probably post you one for not a lot of £££

Yep, pre-ME7 R. Should have one, though whatever the things do over and above the MAF meter is beyond me!?!

OK, cool. What they do is measure the atmospheric pressure and give this information to the ECU. Air density changes quite a lot depending on pressure, so this information supplements the information provided by the MAF so that the ECU has an even more accurate measure of the amount of air going into the engine. However, at or near sea level it doesn't make an appreciable difference, so the engine will still appear to run fine - but of course you've got that code, so fitting one should get rid of that and will also make the engine run very slightly better - more so at high altitudes.

Fit one and a decent correct Bosch MAF and you'll probably be sorted IMHO.
