Default 2.4d aux belt tensioner

Hello all,

Volvo v70 R design 2009 2.4d, the aux tensioner that is fitted has a large coiled spring as part of the unit. I think but might be wrong this is an old style tensioner and was subject to recall. The new style does not have an exposed spring?

Also how hard is fitting the AC stretch belt by hand without a belt tool?

Thanks in advance

You are correct these should have been dealt with 5 years ago or so , have you not visited a dealer or someone who knows what they are doing for years ? they fail with catastrophic results at about 70000 miles ... The recall will still be open ..

Well I'll see but I dought I'll get any such joy i bet they will want to charge due to its age. It's at 91,000 it runs with no noise or rattles from that area mind.

Re the AC belt. I fitted one using an old credit card put between the belt and pulley then slowly turn the crank pulley with a socket .

You are on borrowed time now , look at the belt from above when running , it should be dead centre of the plastic pulley , the pulley tilts and the belt runs off the edge .
Any Recall is free and doesn't expire .

I'll get them sorted. Out of interest why was the original one so poor? It looks a hefty spring. I take it they crack?

the plastic bush which the tensioner swivels on fails and the arm tilts allowing the belt to run off the side , is your belt running central on the plastic pulley ?
