Default Turbo cuts in and out

I have a V70 D5 AWD registered Feb 2006. I was going up the pennines to Leeds and the Turbo cut out. On this occasion it stayed out while I went to the next junction and all the way back home. Since then it has been intermittent. When accelerating normally it can be felt cutting out and back in again like having flat spots. Yesterday morning going to work it was doing this, then I got on the M62 and accelerated to 70 ish and it cut out and continued to be out for most of the journey, then started working again towards the end. Today I have done a journey over the Peak district (Woodhead pass) the Rotherham and apart from a few blips it work most of the time. Anyone have any suggestions as to the possible cause. Oh, the 'Engine system service required' is showing most of the time. It was cleared after the first time, but came back.

Ditto above.
Sounds obvious but check air filter?
Not the easiest to change on these and get "ignored".

Sorry for not getting back I couldn't log on to this for ages for some reason and have just sorted it out.
Problem was a split in the intercooler, just in case that is useful to anybody.
