Default Brakes - Girling or ATE

Hi All

I confess I am being rather lazy by not working it out from photos etc. but basically, my car is a 144DL registered May 1970

Does it have Girling or ATE brakes???

Thanks

Not actually had to look on my 140s but having done it several times on Volvo 164s (basically the same in that department) your car could have either. I believe the calipers are marked as to which system they have, but was under the impression the difference is just in the pad fitting kit? It also may depend if you have solid discs or ventilated - on thinking about it, not much help at all really, am I?!
I hope somebody else can advise.

Default ATE or Girling

HI
As Paul said depends on fitting kit if yours has little R clips it Girling if the pins are a knock out type they are ATE but beware because the bodies are simular you could actually get a mix on the same axle I had this on a 164 I owned a while back.

My Feb 1970 145 has ATE calipers if that helps, but best to check what you have though as they could well have been changed over the years for whatever was available at the time!

ATE is the most common on 140's but always best to check
