Brake discs might be warped, but on my last BMW I had to fight the steering wheel when braking hard, turned out to be front tyres even though they had no visible signs of problems.

Not sure how they "checked" your brakes? a visual inspection will identify how much material is left on the pads or how worn the discs appear but to check for warping you'd need a gauge to measure run-out as the discs rotate (not a 5 min job).
Anyway if the brakes are all good then the front lower wishbone bushes will create a vibration when braking (if the bushes are worn out) usually accompanied by a 'wandering' feeling to the steering over uneven surfaces.

Can you feel any vibration or shaking through the steering wheel at higher speeds when you're not braking? Does the shaking change speed depending on how fast you are going when you brake? Can you feel any pulsing through the brake pedal (also speed dependent)? |

Lower Control Arms bushing can cause this when worn. You would feel another symptoms aswell but maybe its most obvious when you brake. Its a common failure point on our cars anyway so worth checking.
