Humming from N/S rear corner

As per the title, got a good hummmmmm coming from the rear near side wheel. Volume is directly proportional to speed, and it's not the bearing (these were done just a few months ago, and sounded different). When I turn right, and the weight shifts off the lhs, the noise goes completely.

Thinking it could be the tyres (they're overdue replacement), but could it be related to the brakes or perhaps diff/drive shaft?

Thanks in advance for any thoughts / advice.

Most likely tyres, and given that you state they are due for replacement, it's not worth looking anywhere else until the new tyres are on.

Believe it or not this sound can also be caused by a sticking brake caliper on that wheel. I would take the pads out , clean everything up and make sure that the piston is free to slide in and out correctly.

Quite a few on here have had this issue.

Can be stickling caliper, easy to diagnose.

If not - it's the wheel bearing. 99% it's that. They may have been done a few months ago but if you (or your mechanic) bought cheap ones then they don't last even 10% of the life of Volvo or SKF ones. I've made that mistake myself...

Despite having had new ones, that is a great description of bearing noise!

Thanks - it was a Euro Car Parts 'aftermarket' (so, cheap) bearing set. The sound does seem a bit different to the whine that the wheel bearings made before they were replaced. Perhaps it's just the noise the cheap ones make when they're kaputt.

They were only done in September, so at least I should get them replaced FOC. It's going in Friday.

As predicted, it’s the bearing. The wheel has significant play in it when jacked up.

Buy cheap, buy twice.

Unfortunately there are a lot of dubious bearing kits around and most are just not worth buying.
When I did mine a couple of years ago, I bought an SKF bearing kit from Euro Car Parts and had no problems at all, but I know of somebody who bought an unbranded bearing on the Internet which failed after less than 150 miles; he eventually got his money back but there was no compensation for the week his car was off the road, or the £175 he had paid to have the bearing fitted.
Changing the bearing is not a particularly easy job and certainly not one I would want to do twice.
