Oh dear, I`ve read both threads with interest and can only say this:
"Why does the motor trade seem to have far too many who go about their business this way"? It honestly saddens me. I know when I was a technician a few moons ago now I tried my best to go that little bit extra, albeit I only fitted the parts supplied by the stores my personal `quality of workmanship` was important to me to keep up.

That would be because they have not been changed. They all have a serial number on and are exactly the same as before.

Yes the problem did later return and that can only be put down to the plugs used. All that had to be done to solve the problem was replace the plugs for the correct type. You can not blame me for the worng plugs being fitted. If you wanted Volvo plugs why not order Bi fuel ones or just follow my advice on NGK plugs? A shame I was given the wrong information about what had been done to the car as I could have just changed the plugs rather than spending out on have everything checked over on it. |

Things were a little tense between us with all that had gone on. We went for a drive and Rick was happy that the car was running correctly on both fuels. Rick had a look over the changes made to the injector brackets and I noticed his top engine mount had started to split as they do. I gave Rick a new ploy mount to fit. I knew I had not done the bolts up but the thought had gone from my mind while at the dentist. The hose clips were all tight. You need to take care not to swing on them or you will end up cutting through the rubber hose. |

I'm not an LPG expert however if you ignore the written words and just look at the photos that were posted, are you honestly trying to tell us all that you feel that the conversion was 100% if you are then you should stop doing conversions. If you feel you didn't quite come up to scratch stop posting excuses and get the faulty cars back strip the old conversion out and redo them with top quality parts and workmanship, only then will you redeem yourself and salvage your business. You may even find that the aggrieved parties may well post a positive review of the conversion.

LPG Installation
I have read the thread that has been put on in respect of Classicswede. I had my conversion done by Dai. I have owned several LPG cars over the years but never actually had a kit fitted. I bought a XC90 2005 2.5T with the intention of converting it. I did some research and got several quotes. I ended up using Dai, chosen because of his knowledge of Volvo and also his LPG fiting.
Volvo knowledge was important as I also needed a full cambelt service. I spoke with Dai on the phone and booked the car in. I live in Manchester and drove the car over to Dai in Anglesey. I was not using the car at all as i wanted it converted and serviced first. It was evident on my long drive over that there was a engine problem with the car, obviously i told Dai and left it with him. Dai sorted out my engine problem fitted the LPG and a couple of weeks later I collected the car. It ran OK and I was pleased with it. There was a problem with a leaking injector which Dai fixed by meeting me in Chester which was mutually convenient. There was also a problem that affected running on gas which turned out to be the throttle body, Dai cleaned this up and since then the car has ran fine. The engine management light comes on and goes off occasionally and the fuel level indicator is not much use, however having owned several LPG cars including a V70 i expect these minor issues. The system I had fitted is the Europegas OSCAR-N plus, I had a 70litre underslung tank with a centrally fitted filling nozzle next to the towbar. All of this discussed prior to fitment. The standard of fitment is excellent the quality of fitings is excellent. For the full Cambelt service and the LPG kit fitted I paid £1400 (I supplied the cambelt and filters etc) I think that this was good value and has paid for itself allready in the saving made by using LPG. Volvo wanted £600 just to replace the cambelt!!! If there is one thing I have learnt from having various LPG systems fitted to different cars it is they all have there own individuality. I have had a Jag 3.2 with a Tartarini system, a V70 with a Bigas system, a Lexus RX300 with a Landi Renzo system. I had quotes of £3000 down to £700 for fitment to my XC90 I preffered a Volvo specialist. I am not an expert in LPG, I am well versed in the Motor Trade having ran my own business selling cars for 15 years. I would have no issue with Dai doing work on my car in the future and would have no issue with having him do another conversion for me. I think the biggest problem is for people who do have an issue is the distance and cost to travel if there is a problem. My circumstances were maybe not like most people, I didnt need the car quickly and was happy to leave it until it was finished, I also had the time to meet up with Dai when I had issues and used the travel to fit in with work and a day in Chester. I have been on this forum for sometime now, my son has been on it for quite sometime as well we have 3 Volvos between us including a Police V70 a C30 and my XC90 all petrol. I cant remember seeing anything like this complaint before against anyone on this site. My reason for adding this is just to give a balanced view. I shall monitor this thread for any further issues. No it wasn't, yet you expect your customers to travel huge distances at their expense to put right your poor workmanship, Rick always accepted that there is inconvenience inherent in going a long distance, you had his car three weeks and still didn't manage to turn out a decent job.
However, that is not the crux of the issue. The issue is that you sold and charged for a premium system with precision Japanese injectors as used by Prins. You supplied an ultra cheap system with Korean injectors as used by you. It simply isn't acceptable. The description is an inherent part of the contract. If Rick had paid you with £50 notes printed on a colour photo copier he couldn't simply claim 'well the look like £50 notes so you damn well ought to be happy with them'. Yet this is precisely the attitude you are adopting. Last edited by 940_Turbo; Aug 7th, 2012 at 23:47. Reason: Typo |
