Well that is what the ad says......!

I've a feeling it isn't, somehow, DVLA says registered 1/9/92, so an early one for sure - and in decent looking condition at a sensible price.

But what is the earliest known to the Club? I know the 850 was "unveiled" in 1991 in Sweden, but available in the UK from 1992 only?

I also thought that the GLT only came along in 1993 - which also makes this one "odd"?

Be interested to know.

Of course, if this is The Very First..... I suggest someone gets it snapped up quick!

I can't find it now but I'm sure I've seen Clarkson road testing a J plate 850.

This one I spotted in Aviemore earlier this year was registered at the end of August, but could well be older. It's pretty much mint apart from the wheels, I'd like to think he's using these wheels to keep the original ones nice.

I read somewhere that all the early 850s were badged as GLT regardless of spec, I might have imagined that though.

No way is it the first produced, possibly one of the first for the UK (or RHD) market.

It's a nuance of language, as far as I can see the Volvo 850 2.0 20v GLT was the first model of the 850 so 'The first Volvo 850 produced', adding 'very' into that phrase seems to make it mean this particular car, which given that it's right hand drive I'd very much doubt.

edit: and on the subject of linguistic nuance, why is the ad written all in capitals? GRRRRR!

Thanks all.

After posting this, a friend of mine reminded me that he owns a J plate, registered in June 1992....... So that's answered that question then!!

Pretty low-spec. I had an early GLT and it had cruise, ECC, leccy windows all round, alloys.

I have a 1995 850/854 SE, 2.0 petrol, 10 valve. RHD. Colour is Aubergine. I cannot seem to find much information about this model.

Any information would be appreciated.

Thanks and regards
