Default Aqs flaps

Hi all , just purchased xc90 D5 2006
Got an error code for the air quality sensor
I’ve located the sensor .
the bottom flap closes when pressing air con or air circulation buttons but top flap doesn’t seem to be connected to anything
There is no resistance or anything
My question is is the top flap supposed to be connected to anything
If it is how or where do I look
Thanks Gary

An internal fault in the AQS can take down the LIN bus that controls the climate control system.
Remove the AQS. The climate control and passenger seat heater (if fitted) should then work normally. Replace the AQS if you want the auto-recirculation function to work, otherwise leave it out.

Hi gmonag, thanks for the reply
Yes new aqs part ordered but what I want to know is are the flaps linked / connected together by cable / rod as top flaps have no resistance at all and don’t seem to be connected to anything where as bottom flaps seem like there on a motor and have resistance
Thanks Gary

All the flaps are moved by individual stepper motors.

Where would I find these stepper motors behind glovebox ? Or through engine bay?

Behind the dashboard. But test the system first without the AQS - you may find everything works OK.

Just to be sure - are you sure you located the AQS! It is fitted in the cabin air intake under the windscreen scuttle.

Yeah im sure passenger side under screen just in front of air intake.
My top flap doesn’t seem to work I’m able to flick it and it closes, but bottom flap closes when I press air conditioning button/ circulation button and opens when cancelling.
You say behind dash ? Inside car or from under scuttle
If it’s too much hassle I will just replace aqs and leave flaps don’t fancy taking dash out

I do not think there is a top flap.
Only one flap is electrically controlled, and that is inside the car.

There are definitely 2 flaps under the windscreen scuttle
In the engine bay but don’t know if there connected to each other
