I remember driving in to town in a snow blizzard on the 1st May one year.

FWIW I got a notice from the lease company in NL last week that I should arrange with the Dealers to put the Summer Tyres on my XC60 T8 - my Company includes Summer and Winter tyres in their lease car arrangements.

As I got it in Winter, I've never tried it on Summer tyres, so it should be interesting to see what the difference is.

I think it's probably well known in the forum that here in Sweden we are required by law to have winter tyres fitted when winter conditions are present between 1st December & 31st March.

Here in around my area in Gothenburg they are starting to sweep the gravel up off the road, they only do this once they are reasonably confident the threat of winter conditions is over. This is my cue to change back to summer tyres.

I have studded winter tyres which are of course rather noisy so i'm very much looking forward to a quieter ride!

Having already cut the lawns twice this month, I'll be swapping to the summer tyres later this week.

Suggest you check the forecast for next week - Yorkshire has a warning for snow next Tuesday evening with frosts almost every night as well........winter still has a few turns yet!

TBH , I've been using my Vredstein Wintrac Extreme S all year round. They have 19k miles on them and they have around 5.8mm tread left. Life jacket on, waiting for the tsunami of hate to flow.

Did/do exactly the same with the Wintrac's on my LR Disco 3. Wondrous tyre. Seemed to wear better than the Pirelli Scorpion's that were on it as standard, and rendered the snow mode etc. pretty pointless during the winter.

XC90 will be a lease, so I'm kind-of stuck with what comes as standard and what the Lease company say. Current lease Merc C350e was/is probably the worst car I've had in snow, and lease company wouldn't consider winter tyres

The winters don’t lose grip in worst condition for them as badly as summers do in worst condition for them so if you have one set - winters make more logical sense as the only tyre from safety perspective.
Also even in the south you get conditions that are more suitable for winters (low single digit lows) at least 6 months a year.
