I never put recomended amount in I always add and check dipstick as I go it takes longer but I know it's right.
Is this core plug the same on the auto box fitted in the S60 D5? I can't be dealing with any more transmission problems after only just fixing mine. |

Hi everyone. I thought you'd be interested to see how I tackled the dreaded displaced core plug problem. I was determined not to take out the gearbox etc as it is a massive job so I looked at reaching the plug somehow and pushing it back in. I removed the airbox, air pipes, starter and was able to just see the smallest hint of shiny metal, the plug. I have an endoscope that plugs into my phone, it has a 5.5mm head so would just slide between the block and flywheel. I saw that the plug had tipped and was rubbing against a ridge on the back of the flex plate (flywheel for an automatic). Using a strip of flat metal strip I tipped the plug to align it back to its bore, washed it off with several shots of meths using a small piece of tubing, applied original epoxy araldite around the plug and popped it back in. I applied more adhesive across the face of the now flush fitting plug and left it for a full 24 hours to harden. It's now been 2 weeks and over 500 miles with no sign of oil leakage. It wasn't too bad to do using the camera and some suitably fashioned tools and has to be worth a try before, potentially, scrapping the car due to the high cost of labour involved in pulling it apart. I'll try to add a link to some video footage I took of leveling the plug, washing it, applying the adhesive and how it looked at the end. Hope this helps someone.

Part Number for the replacement Core Plug
My Diff blew up on my S60 D5 Manual box the other week, so need a replacement box, DMF, Clutch, etc. Have been advised twice now to change the core plug, does anyone know the part number for the required part?
TIA. |

e3 oil galery core plug fails at aprox100 k plus caused by deterioration of the rubber. the new improved part is all steel. the crankshaft oil seal should be done at the same time to ensure that you dont need to go in there again hopefully.

Vin number from car helps with part numbers because anyone with VIDA can look it up for you
better still install VIDA (https://docs.google.com/document/d/e...i3cpHBdsZa/pub) because even without the hardware to read faults it works as a parts catalouge in instructions, skip about halfway down to 'Installing VIDA' download locations at the bottom instead of reading info from car just input VIN manually thanks be to Richard Hale Parker on matthewsvolvosite forum Cheshire5 on VolvoOwners forum Amen Last edited by stuart bowes; Jan 13th, 2021 at 00:01. |

Mine went a few years back.
It was overdue a service, oil was crap and I blame that. I did it myself and it took every minute of 10 hours. Horrible job. Bascially, its the same labour as clutch and flywheel change. So you can ask garages for that. HTH |
