Soot filter full
2009 V70 D5
Big miler (245k miles) that has been driving perfectly but the 'soot filter full' thingy has appeared. The power has been significantly reduced as a result but it is still driving. I bought the car almost a year ago and it has been faultless but a couple of weeks ago the warning came on. I don't drive the miles that a diesel needs. I do less than 10 miles a day so the car never really gets a chance to warm up. I took it for a 40 mile trip and I had it in 3rd, 4th and 5th gear to try and force a regeneration but it didn't happen. What's your advice? |

You may find a company that offers a cleaning service for DPF’s can resolve the priblem. It needs the DPF removing, cleaning out with their chemical cleanjng system and refitting. I understand costs are typically £5/600 so pribably cheaper than a new DPF. When done (coming from a high mileage dirsel driver of 35 years) i would use premium fuels such as Vpower and give it an Italian tune up every few weeks. And next time buy a petrol! Keep us posted on how you get on.

You could ask for a local member with Dice/VCX and Vida to do a forced regeneration.

I suspect at that mileage the DPF is goosed but nothing to loose with trying a forced regen. Might buy you some time.

DPF Cleaner
Try the cheapest option first, DPF cleaner. Cataclean, etc
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Cataclean...4AAOSwPjZdqDNd Don't forget to use the correct engine oil in your engine. Some oils produce a lot of ash which can bung up the DPF. Volvo uses 0W/30 A5/B5 in many of it's 5 cylinder D3,D4 and D5's which is a low ash producing oil. |
