Default Volvo 240 Odometer gear

Hi Volvo Team,

I have a G-reg Volvo 240 GLT with a broken Odometer.

1) I have seen a few kits on e-bay for sale. Some come with just the 1 large cog and others also come with a smaller cog. Prices range from £30 (1 cog)-£50 (2 cogs). I assume I should get the product with 2 cogs?

2) The cogs all have different numbers of teeth. Surely my car has a standard cog with a standard number of teeth?

Any tips/guidance/links to products would be much appreciated. I know this is a common fault and a simple fix - well it was on my 850.

Thanks in advance.

Buy a pair of gears . My ‘91 240 needed both. Fantastic YouTube video talks you through it. The mechanic who did mine said the video was invaluable.

The VDO speedometer has a “box” for the tenths on the trip. Fairly sure yours will be VDO.

The cheap gears are 3D printed and won’t last long, if at all.

Good quality injection moulded gears are available here, with a detailed overview of how the system works, which gear is suitable for your car and fitting instructions.

Cheers

I'll take the risk for £12 posted

I won't be doing many miles anyway, so hopefully it will be all good.

I’m twelve months in so far but only 2500 miles.🤞

The video says lube with a small amount of Vaseline, which can’t hurt!
