I guess post the question in general questions.
What do you want to know? I have got a v50 2.0d SE (2005). First Volvo I have bought and I can honestly say I think I am going to stick with them for life. I bought in preparation for starting a family. I've owned and driven many cars and this is up there for comfort, looks and performance. For the price you won't get much better for your money. Sorry, new to this forum lark. I am looking at buying a v50 2.4i SE Geartronic and am a bit confused as to the "semi-automatic" description - I need automatic. Do you know if this means that I can use it as a plane automatic. Sorry for being thick but as you can tell I know very little about cars apart from I love Volvo's and yes I am female! We all have to learn somewhere.

What they mean by 'semi-automatic' is that the car has what Volvo call 'Geartronic'. The gearbox is a normal auto gearbox, the car does not have a clutch pedal and if you want you can drive it just like any other auto, stick it in 'P,D,R or N', and off you go with the 'stop' and 'go' pedals. What the 'Geartronic' box gives you is the a manual shift on the auto box. As your travelling along you can push the gear lever across to the left from 'D'. This takes you to the geartronic side where you can knock the gear stick forward (always returns to the same position, spring loaded) to change up a gear or knock the stick back to change down a gear. You can even double tap the stick to go up/down 2 gears. This is very useful if say your on a long hill and you just happen to be travelling at a speed where the box constantly keeps changing up and down because it can't decide which gear is best. Here you could knock it over to geartronic and then knock the stick forward or back to achieve the gear you want and the car will stay in that gear until you either kncok the stick forward/back to change up/down or return it to full auto mode by moving the gear stick across to the right back into 'D'. I have an V50 auto myself and I use my manual side of the box all the time, I think it is great. It does take a little getting use to (the manual side) but once your practiced it becomes second nature. If all you want is plain 'auto' then it will do exactly that - you don't have to use the manual side. Last edited by SonyVaio; May 11th, 2012 at 09:03. |

Many thanks for explaining that to me. Greatly appreciated. I will continue with my hunt for the perfect car.
