I think phil1968 has it. The cause of your problem at that mileage needs investigating as it shouldn't be a problem.
Most likely culprit would be your journeys .

Thanks Iain. Yes mine is the 6 speed 8 valve. So I'm a lucky chap.
A) wonder if it will actually last the lifetime of the car?
B) why are the 'dry' ones not fitted to all the cars?
c) can you replace/retrofit a 'wet' with a 'dry'?

A - depends what you have in mind for lifetime. Cars are typically engineered to last 10 years/150k miles, which seems a reasonable lifespan for an appropriately used DPF. I know of cars with 250k+ and no DPF issues though. They regenerate more frequently as the car ages and their soot capacity is reduced, which will affect economy. Remapped cars will almost certainly need a new filter sooner.

B - The EOLYS 'wet' system was an early implementation. The fluid lowers the temp at which the soot burns off, smaller engines couldn't generate the heat required for the dry systems available at the time. It's a bit of a bodge TBH and was short lived. Volvo can't have been happy at having to use this PSA/FoMoCo heath robinson thing.

C - Practically speaking, no. Engine management changes would be enormous, the chance of the aftermarket ever successfully undertaking calibration work like that is nil.

My two penneth....

Professional cleaning can be an option, unfortunately its an area where there seem to be some cowboys who think cleaning is a matter of additives....

My mum's C30 1.6D has haD DPF issues recently, most likely because it never gets out of town. It went to the local dealer who updated the software on the additive module and charge £100. Lasted a few weeks, then took a punt on these chaps:

https://www.dpfrepair.co.uk/

I did before and after differential readings in VIDA and noticed a substantial improvement (they also do the readings and give you a print out), they also pointed out that the additive unit wasn't working at all - so back to the dealer who also conceded that it wasn't and replaced it (refunded the earlier bill but replaced it with a bigger one).

I still maintain the bigger problem with DPFs is many garages don't understand them or know how to diagnose them or other faults that impact their operation.

Thanks dme, wanted to understand all that. Hmmm, my car had a Viezu performance remap about 2 years ago. I doubt I'll get to 150k in it, currently on 106k.

Default Outcome

Turns out it was the DPF sensor and attached pipework. All OK now. Thank you everyone.

Default DPF replacement

My DPF soot filter full light has popped up a few times and the back of my car keeps getting covered in the stuff.
Can anyone recommend a company on the south coast to replace it? Reading threads on here it should be around £300?
Thanks
