Default Decision time

The old girl has 202k on the clock, clutch starting to slip, booster seal whistling and so on.
Never let us down ever. DIM, SRS module, DDM and a/c clutch bearing were the major events in thirteen years.
Road tax is €1080 and the way things are going I may have to wear a planet destroyer badge if we persist.
Shame really as there is another 100k in her easy. As it stands it's worth close to nothing and we won't replace with another because our needs have changed and, well, they don't really make Volvos anymore.
The generosity of the contributors here has made ownership a pleasant experience. Thanks to each and every one.

It is always a difficult decision when the prospective bills are getting bigger.

I have to say I've found your posts so helpful over the years, so, even if you do decide to get let the car go, I hope you will continue to post on the forum.

+1, that.

On my part, I understand your concerns, I think- fully.
It so happens that I'm pretty much faced with similar choice- to stay with Volvo or not.
Thing is, V70 meets pretty much all my needs, and the only way I can imagine it to be improved is loosing the need to "climb down" into the car- to which an XC70 would be a nice answer.

Apart from that I simply can't imagine any other make and model that would be able to transport pretty much anything, provide same or at least similar level of comfort and yet be as reliable as my old barge..

It seems that you have made some choice already.
Maybe not what new car will be, but it doesn't look like it will be Volvo.

In a way I'm happy for you, in another way.. Not so.
Its a mixed feeling.

Whatever happens, I hope you'll stay with us here.

Having hung up my Range Rover boots after 15 years, I know the feeling, but I have a Volvo now

The Suzuki S-Cross 4WD auto (1.4 petrol) is getting good noises, in all places, on a Range Rover forum I frequent. I also found this review:

Thank you all for your kind words.
If I have made a few relatively useful posts it has largely been due to repeating the wealth of information already on here from more experienced heads.

Default It'll be a sad day......

I guess it gets to the point where it no longer makes economic sense to keep going fixing yet more issues and Irish road duty seems punishing compared to GB. Thanks for all your good advice which you have freely given. I hope the next set of wheels meets your expectations and no, they don't make Volvos like they used to or I'd be driving one.....
Cheers and thanks,
Nobby

Obligatory pep talk:
It's just a clutch job and a master cylinder! What's the big deal? Go for the 300K! Waddahyou-a-wuss?

Attempt at humor:
Hey, how 'bout throwing an automotive parts cannibalization party?
May I have your engine head?

Really though, if your needs have changed then it is time to move onto something else. What is undeniable is whilst living with our "quality" cars we have been impressed with various other vehicles along the way. Vehicles have improved so much. Enjoy shopping.

Annoying suggestion:
List it for sale with its TWO faults clearly stated. There's got to be a car buff or youngster in auto tech school somewhere in the UK.
It surely has had all its wrinkles ironed out otherwise.

You simply must tell us what you select.

Best of luck. George (& Kira-she was a Samoyed Dog)
