Few qustions about the 740 GL
hello
I own a 740 GL volvo with the B230 engine combine with the M47 trany. i have a several qustions about improving it: 1. in the past week i had acquired a T-3 turbochrger and now planing to install it into my volvo. i wanted to ask where on the net can i buy rings/pistons that will support the additional power? (the turbo pressure will be about 0.7-1.0 bar) can i replace my pistons with the B230FT pistons? 2. additional i want to change my wheels to magnesium or aluminium wheels with low cut and whanted to know if the 850 T-5 wheels are applicable for my car? and if not what models have the same joint as my? thank you in advance Ariel.:-) |

RE: Few qustions about the 740 GL
Word has it that the front main bearings on B230 engines have been the subject of, er, "continuuous product development". Guess why.
I'm sure that other contributors will be able to give far more specific help than I can, but it would seem reasonable to me that if you are going to screw more torque & power from the top end, then it is worth ensuring the bottom end can deliver it. Regards, |

RE: Few qustions about the 740 GL
phil thanks for the reply and the information
but from what i know there some B230K engines that have up to 280 HP and still stay quite reliable. (with 1 psi boost i will have about 200-220 HP) any way i live in the approach of first geting to the barrier (im not sure that i will go there...(over 250 HP)) and then to geting through it. |

RE: Few qustions about the 740 GL
Not sure about the pistons but it may be worth checking the compression ratio of the head of a non turbo against the turbo one as Ive a feeling that they are slightly different. Secondly are the con rods up to the extra power. There are some good sites. Try Anthony Hyde's site in Australia for tips on nutty things to do with Volvos. Type ''Anthony Hydes'' into a search engine and on google you should come up with a site which has wwwrsphysse (no dot on www for some reason) in it. The rest of the address goes on for ever. Hope this helps
