Default handbrake cable

i have just purchased a 1998 1.6 s40 from ebay (for the huge price of £300) and was advised the handbrake required adjustment....like i wouldn't realise lol. when i removed the rear console section, the balancer is way off the recommended 90 degree to adjuster cable, (more like 45 degrees)with one new looking cable (n/s), and the other looking very old. is it worth changing just the old cable?, or is it best to change both together. ps stretched cable would seem strange here,as the n/s cable (newer looking one) is the longer of the 2

Default cable

it might not be just that the cable is rusty, your handbrake might be siezed on the brake caliper end.
