V70's work off two separate pumps too.
Pump 1 - operates the windscreen and tailgate washers Pump 2 - operates the headlamp washers Pump 1 has a filter over the pump intake (just inside the washer bottle) which gets full of muck and algae. This causes a lot of problems such as reduced pressure or no water coming out of the windscreen/tailgate jets at all. The pump is also prone to failure. Pump 2 - this is the high pressure pump for the headlamp washers. It literally just sits upright in the washer bottle and is easy to remove to test it. The hoses on this system are plastic and brittle and have probably been cable tied together in places which can cause them to split. EDIT: Check out the thread I ran when I was trying to get to the bottom of my headlamp and windscreen washers not working. It might help you out a bit: http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=250945 Also note the links to other threads in that thread above! Both can be inspected by simply removing the passenger side front wheel and wheel arch liner (can be done by just pulling the arch liner back but not as much room then.) Both pumps should be easy to replace! Last edited by bobsy852; Jul 18th, 2016 at 09:48. Reason: Added links to other threads on same topic |

I have a different problem with my windscreen washers
One washer jet is fine but the other one doesnt have any pressure in it. The water just drips out of the little black nozzle on the bonnet and never touches the windscreen. How can I 'up' the pressure so the water actually lands on the windscreen rather than just the bonnet. |

You could try disconnecting the hose and blowing through the suspecting nozzle to clear any blockages while it's still in place.
If it were me, I'd undo the hose to the suspecting nozzle under the bonnet (easily pulls off) then try get the nozzle out. Run it under a tap in both directions. I'd then try blowing through it and try the system again. I'd be sure to check the pipework leading to the nozzle too. Perhaps try triggering the windscreen washer with the hose disconnected and see if water flows through easily. If not the hose might have a blockage too. Shouldn't be toooo difficult to get out I wouldn't imagine. Or you could just try blowing through it! haha |
