Default Question on stop start

Hi all, it's a 2013 S60 T3 ES S/S.

I've only had the car a few months, I am not a fan of using the S/S though it is my belief it just puts excess wear on the battery and starter motor to outweigh the benefits, plus o just find it a bit disconcerting.

Anyway, I've been driving the car for a few months I assumed the SS was disabled as it's never done anything. The green light on the SS button on the control panel has always been on.

Anyway, driving today, I pulled up at a junction and the engine randomly shut off, which I am pretty certain is the SS kicking in. I looked and hit the SS button and it said Eco drive off, so assume now that means if the green light is off, that means SS is off.

So, my question, if the SS has been on this whole time, why hasn't it been working?

My only thought is that since having the car I have a lowish battery, maybe there is a sensor that detects that and disables the SS automatically if it thinks the battery is on the low side?

Start-stop only works when all conditions are met. Battery has to be full enough, engine warm etc.

Ahhh ok makes sense, I gave the battery a charge the other day then gave the car a good run last night so probably charged the battery enough for it to kick in.

I'm gonna change the battery in the next few days anyway, I've already got the replacement just need to swap it over.

Mine frequently doesn't go green and I can drill down into the system menus to discover why... Usually it's because the battery has a 'low charge or is at a low temperature" but not always. Usefully the green light goes off during DPF regen.

I wonder if your clutch switch is intermittent. Does the cruise control always work ok?
Again I don't use it much at all, but when I have it's worked without fault.

Strange, that's different to mine. The green light on mine turns on and off according to the switch regardless of whether the conditions are met.

So if the green light on the switch is lit but SS doesn't kick in then I have to go into the Drive menu to see the reason.

Ah, apologies all.

I didn't mean the light on the s/s switch, I meant the display 'button' on the infotainment 'my V60' page (which goes green when the s/s is active)

Sorry for any confusion, although driving around with that screen displayed may be helpful, and then you are only a click and a twist or so away from discovering why the system is currently inactive.
