Welcome to the world of 5 cylinder noise :-)
Everyday is a school day, I thought the 2.0 was the PSA engine like my v50, I didn’t realise there was a 2.0 5 pot.

Oh yes, I have the D3 in my V70, super smooth and very torquey (400nm).

Economical too at >40mpg avg despite some spirited driving.

Same here, although with very very careful boring driving, (very slow acceleration, and slowing some distance from red lights etc) I found I could get around 50 mpg. Also on a long journey to Cumbria whilst following speed limits I got around 50-52mpg. By the time I drove back I had got bored and only achieved around 40mpg over the 350 mile return journey!

So my conclusion is that good mpg is achievable dependent on boredom tolerance.

You must realise that D3 is not a specific engine. It's a power range.

In 2012, when I bought my XC70, there were both D5204T3 and D5244T17 labeled D3. Both deliverd 163 hp, but the 2.4 liter has higher torque. The 2.4 liter was used in AWD cars.
