Unhappy XC90 T8 - Sudden loss of power when pulling out of junctions

4 year old XC90 T8 - last few weeks when pulling out of junctions (and our drive) car just stops with total loss of power. Main needle on dash drops even when accelerator pressed down harder. A few seconds later power returns but in that short window or car being stationary and unable to drive I've almost been hit.

Happens in Pure and Hybrid mode and when in Electric and Petrol. But mostly when in Electric (which we are most of the time anyway due to short journeys). Getting worse every day, booked into garage but no slots till next week.

Anyone else experienced this? Any ideas?

Most likely a failing ERAD. Lot of post regarding power loss on the US swedespeed forum.

This is classic ERAD failure. It's a circa 3 grand repair. Up to 4 years old Volvo pay for it all. Up to 5 years old they pay 50 percent. Over 5 years you are on your own.

Look at the top of the forum listing, there is a sticky post of mine with everything I know about this issue.

Thanks - it's just under 4 years so good to know

My advice, be quick. Even if you just get them to read the codes (which can be done without them even getting in the car, it just has to be within range of the dealers' WIFI). There should be a code logged for ERAD failure. Get it diagnosed before 4 years old, as in my experience, Volvo apply the 4 year limit very strictly.

Well I’m please to say it was looked at and diagnosed before the 4 years. ERAD as predicted and Volvo making 100% contribution which is great. It’s in the garage now - I continue to be a delighted Volvo owner, I think a lot of brands wouldn’t have contributed anything so well done Volvo.

Glad it is being fixed and at no cost to you. Getting in before the 4 years was key so well done. This is the power of the forums when we can share information and help each other out.
