Default V70r

Hi All,

It’s been a long while since I’ve visited these parts! I have owned many a Volvo in the past but the one that got away was a V70R. I had one in my younger driving years but parted with it and wished I hadn’t!

If any enthusiast is looking to part with a good cherished example can you please PM me. I am a fastidious car owner, so would really rather buy from a like minded enthusiast than a garage.

My ideal specs…

Colour - ideally sonic blue or silver is my best preferred
Facelift ‘54 onwards
Not an import
Not particularly fussed with transmission
Interior nordkap, atacama or gobi in that order of preference.

I know it’s a tough want and I’m willing to wait for the right one, and will likely have to….
Thanks for taking the time to look at my advert

Out of interest, why are you discounting imports? Likelyhood is you're limiting your options, especially in Sonic Blue.

Partly due to the somewhat sporadic service history, but mainly due to having to do the conversion of the speedometer to mph from kph. It’s doable, but no what I would want the hassle of doing

I assume insurance would maybe cost more and be less easy to get? Then the radio stations are in Japanese etc.

And whilst they are generally very low miles, they are also very much too dollar too and I can’t help but think you could get the British equivilebt for the same price and have working radio, clocks and insurance all out the box?

I own a Cosmic Blue with Nordkapp. Been in the country for 3 years.

I’ve not noticed any difference in insurance. Tax is lower than a UK spec car at about £255 quid a year, so would offset and insurance hit easily I suspect.

Converting the DIM was £90 from the Volvo guys in Tilbury. I sourced proper ‘R’ MPH dials for cost of about £30 once I’d sold my old KPH cluster to compensate.

My ‘import’ has had all fluids done, been over with a fine tooth comb and about £2-3k of maintenance done on it.

I get the ‘risk’ with fresh imports, but I wouldn’t dismiss imports that have been in the country for a year or two. It then comes down to how individuals have maintained them.

Did the Tilbury guys do the calibration/set up of the new instrument cluster?

Just checked, and it’s Volvo Diagnostics.

£90, and you send the full cluster away (only takes 3 minutes to remove). They’ll convert the DIM so that all the messages in the bottom left corner are English. It doesn’t convert from l/kph to mpg. You ‘mileage’ will also read in KM but, that doesn’t bother me. I like the reminder it’s a bit different. Same with the Japanese labels under the bonnet.

Service from VD was great. It was shipped, converted and back in my car in less than three days.
