740 b230k survivor carb problems
Hello all, I’ve acquired an ‘89 740 GL estate, with a minimal 43k miles. seems to be totally original, well looked after, under neath is in amazing condition have been under sealed from nearly new it would appear.
After a few hours chasing air leaks & trying to fathom out the pierburg carb set up, it appears carb has been messed about with & unfortunately too many silly little things damaged putting it beyond economical/possible repair. Drawing from people’s experience, what is the best option? Webcon conversion, new oe carb if can be sourced or does anyone have a working used carb for sale? I like the idea of originality on this old barge, had good experience with pierburg auto choke carbs on old vw’s to be honest, but is it worth the expense & trouble of chasing oe carb setup, or just take the webcon conversion as seems fairly popular? Does it fit/work well & look fairly original in the engine bay? Any input appreciated, would like to get it up and running properly and reliably. Thanks Damian |
