Default V50 water/damp

Hi,

I have a 2010 (60 reg) V50, bought a few months ago, which has had water in the roof lining twice. It is wet on both sides of the roof lining beside the light cluster between the 2 front seats, and removing the light cluster shows drips on the inside of the roof above the light cluster, but not elsewhere on the inside of the roof as far as I can tell. The drips appear to be above the join between the roof and the screen, so I can't think that the seal round the windscreen is not sealed correctly. There is enough water sitting in the bottom of the light cluster that it drips through the gaps onto the gearstick, or onto the driver if you are going round a corner! I can only think it is condensation. It has happened once after snow and once after slightly warmer weather (last night) after rain.

Has anyone else had this and found a fix?

Thanks
Paul

Windscreen seal is an known issue, a Volvo dealership should be able to fix it for you - I believe the windscreen has to be the original though.

Interesting, and thanks for letting me know. I did wonder about the seal, but I couldn't see any problems and I couldn't work out where it would be coming in through the seal, so I wasn't sure. Also it is odd that it only happens occasionally, but I suppose it could be that it only becomes obvious when there has been enough rain.

Would the likes of Autoglass deal with this type of issue? I'll also talk to my local garage (I'd rather steer clear of the cost of Volvo deadlerships...)

Just to complete the discussion, I had the windscreen resealed today. The seal along the top of the screen was almost completely failed. When they removed the screen they used a wire with handles at both ends to 'saw' through the seal from both sides of the screen. It didn't need any sawing for most of the top of the screen. I am surprised how little water had come in given how little was sealed. He said that there was no primer, which probably explains why it failed. The screen is original so it must have been like that from the factory. Has anyone had any luck in getting Volvo to comtribute to the cost, given that it is clearly a manufacturing fault?

I've got the same problem, did you get yours fixed at Volvo or did you get it done by one of the major windscreen companies?

Although I never had a leak (knock on wood) I could see my sealant on windscreen is degrading in corners. It was clearly visible it will deseal at some point, but my car is 2005. I'm surprised 8year old car already has this issue.
I had windscreen replaced recently when stone hit it by Autoglass. No problems at all and seal is much thicker and fills all edges.
Also - it does not has to be "volvo branded" - Volvo doesnt produce glass. As long as its a reputable EU glass manufacturer (Saint Gobain, Pilkington, Guardian) I would be happy with it. Only issues after re-fitting are usually rain sensors incorrectly padded (air bubbles trapped at its view) but it can be sorted using ebay rain sensor pads.
