Major oil leak behind VVT
I picked up a project car this morning (2002 V70XC Ocean Edition) and thought I would be able to drive it the 100km home but I was forced to change that plan in a hurry! I was losing 1l of oil per 10Km! The oil is clearly coming from timing belt side in behind VVT cam. Previous video from the owners shows conclusively that cam seal is leaking. Here’s the thing, how much can a cam seal actually leak?!? I was leaving a puddle at each stop and I was literally consuming a litre per 10Km.
Anyone else experienced a cam leak that was anywhere near that bad?

Many years ago on a Volvo 240 I had a cam seal fall out completely, and yes the oil then came out very fast.

Thanks guys. I took a very close look yesterday and it appears that the seal is pretty much popped right out. I think that would account for a fair amount of oil. Just to be safe I plan to replace both cam seals and the crank seal plus the oil pump gasket and seal. Might as well, it will all be off and don’t want to be doing this twice!
