Lol
The c3 oil is better than the a5 oil protectionwise for the engine, its better doped BUT the a5 oil leaves less metallic ash in the dpf ,thats the only reason its prescribed But the difference in ash is not that big do |

I attached a comparison between products data sheets of Castrol 0w-30 (C3) and Castrol 0w-30 (A5/B5), taken from Castrol website.
From there it looks like the ash/sulphate exhaust is actually lower on C3 variant (0.8% vs 1.1%). Also I read some advices to help keep the DPF clean - once a few weeks to go at least 30 minutes with at least 80km/h, to heat up the engine and regenerate the particle filter (assuming you're driving in town most of the time). But on viscosity (and some other) parameters, looks likes there is more than just 0w-30, and there are some differences (I highlighted in red). Does anybody know if the differences are relevant? |

Metallic ash is a PERMANENT deposit in your dpf instead of the temporary SOOT wich youre been advised to burn
Im not sure but your engine has an additive tank? if yes the additive will bring the sootcombustion temperature down to levels wich almost burn soot continuously hence active regeneration will only occur in extreme situations If this c3 oil has less metalic ash than the a5 one its an easy choice The figures in the chart are better for the c3 oil the viscosity is in the upper range of the somewhat thin wateroil 0w30 normally is Viscosity index is somehat better for the a5 oil (thinning out ratio) but is also thinner to start with The evaporation is also marginally less wich is better for the c3 oil Also the lower pourpoint means it will be need to be colder to solidify the oil for the c3 oil |
