Knowing your skills and attention to details i'm sure you won't have any problems. What colour are you planning on painting them after blasting? [/QUOTE]
I'm thinking plain silver or satin black Dave. Like to keep as factory as possible I was thinking of getting new pistons so could use the old ones to mask the bores

I'm not doing it save money. I enjoy refurbing stuff and its also a good way of learning how things work Also they are incredibly simple so I can't see why my refurb ( which will have a great attention to detail ) should be worse than factory refurb ones. Cheers, Mark

http://www.biggred.co.uk/ That firm not only supplies parts to repair/recondition/refurbish your own brake parts but also offers the service "professionally". Naturally it goes without saying that meticulous cleanliness must be observed while rebuilding the pistons to the bores. Other than that, assuming the new seals aren't faulty and the pistons/bores aren't compromised by scores/corrosion etc then home refurbishment/reconditioning is well within the scope of most of us on here.

When a caliper needs "refurbishing" there is only one reason it is sticking and that is corrosion . ie rust and once rusted the bore becomes pitted and the chrome plating on the piston flakes off between the piston and cylinder damaging more . no amount of cleaning can help even if you can find a new piston you still have the corroded bore and it will always stick again sometime in the near future , says me with 45 years experience in this kind of thing :-) Hence me saying dump it and buy some new calipers which will last another 15 years ... Change your brake fluid every 2 years too .. almost always neglected ...

I think these pistons look good. I will still replace but their condition and the fact that the bores are very good as well means I'm quite happy to refurb myself.

Looking at those Mark, i'd be confident refurbing them myself if they were mine!
