Do the following:
Get inside the car and close all doors, bonnet and lid. Have all the Remotes that you want to be learned at your side. Turn the key from Pos 0 to Pos II (ignition) 5x within 10seconds. After the 5th time leave the key on Pos II The LED on the dashboard should start blinking signaling that you can start the learning process. Now press a button on the first remote. When the code was acknowledged the LED will stay lit a little longer and after starts blinking again Now press the next remote (if you have more then one) and so on, If you are done just take the key out. All new remotes are now saved, previous ones are deleted from memory. Try the remotes. |

I've been having basically the same problem on my 96 850R.
Intermittant operation of the fobs until it finally stopped altogether. I had usually got round it by reprogramming the fobs after which they worked for a few months but this time I couldn't do that because the alarm activated the moment the fuse was back in and a door opened. As the alarm was enabled, I had to remove the fuse to be able to stop the alarm, but then lost the central locking and interior lights. Looked for a correct type alarm relay (Volvoguard 2) to match my fobs on Ebay, but no joy so gave in and ordered a new one from FRF. Not only fixed the alarm but now the two key fobs work 100% of the time so it must have been the receiver in the relay that was failing. So cost was about £140 for the relay but now the alarm/central locking working perfectly even from a few feet away as you walk to the car. So I'm happy. Just make sure you get the same relay as fitted, as there are some different ones. To get to the relay, remove the drivers side trim panel under the dash, you will find a relay panel and a connector panel. Roughly underneath where the engine bay fuse panel is. I had to remove the connector panel. Two bolts up under dash. You only have to loosen them as the panel sort of hooks over the bolts. Relay 210/211 with the green connector on top. |

So is the receiver built in to the relay then?
I wonder can it be taken apart and serviced...

I think it must be. I only replace the combined relay it restored a good distance to its operating range.
My old relay has a lot writing about telecom agency approval and no WT license required. Without some sort of circuit diagram and layout of thetwo circuit boards it would be tricky. |
