Default has anyone softened up their t5

i,m sick of having my fillings rattled loose and was wondering if anyone fitted softer springs from another model in the range and had a good result. If so which car donated the softer springs and did you keep the t5 dampers.and any issues fitting them or was it just a straight swap.

Hello,
All I can say is the ride in a standard S70 is luxury! So I'd say springs from this could be an option.
What size of alloys are you running? And what tyre profile? Simple areas like this could help you to get a bit more comfort.
Perhaps even your shocks are shot?
Just a few ideas.
Cheers

It depends on the suspension and wheel combo, there's a huge difference in the ride between my S70 TDi on 16" Perfos and standard suspension, and my C70 T5 on 17" Canistos with the factory sport suspension.

What wheels and suspension are you currently running?

Easy, Buy a 940 HPT! Profile of tyres have the sort of effect of removing discs from your spine... If the size allows, swap wheels from 16, 17, 18 to 15 and put 55-65 profile tyres on them. Were the Steelies 14"?

if you have the 16" alloys that are 6 or 7 spoke with the large centre cap i had the same symptons as soon as i put 18" alloys on the ride was improved and is smooth and comfotable.

I know that motoring press of the early 90s, and Volvo themselves, described the 850 as a "driver's car" - seems quite funny to read that all these years later!

I know it's no Focus or 3-series, but my car with bog-standard (and probably original) suspension and steel wheels often surprises me with how keenly it handles on the B-roads, whilst remaining very comfortable too.

Put it this way - it rides and handles better than it looks like it should, and it's really quite pleasing to drive in the twisty stuff!

My old 850 had the factory lowered suspension and did have a hard ride even with 'mere' 16" alloys. My current 850 has the standard height suspension and is a world apart in ride quality - it does however wallow a little more but by comparison and our crappy roads I prefer the higher suspension (lower does look cooler mind ).

Over winter I had 15" wheels with 65 profile tyres (a bit on the big side) but the ride quality was fantastic.

i,ve got the standard 1994 set up,with nivomats on the back. Its not lowered and the tyres are newish, It picks up every pothole and just feels too firm in a crashy-bangy kind of way,no match for a 5 series on smoothness, mind you only an m5 would would be able to catch it (in a straight line) cos it goes like a rocket with the chip fitted.I think they are a bit unbalanced with all the weight up front it wants to plough straight on in a bend.I can't see anything wrong underneath, all the bushes look good,no play anywhere.Any suggestions? do the nivomats valves fail and stiffen up over time, are the standard shocks better than the nivomats.

Have to say T+M my T5 is the same with the 17" wheels and 45 series tyres although mine doesn't have the Nivomats however the trade off is it handles very well for such a big heavy car.
Wheel and tyre combination can have a huge effect in itself, particularly tyre profile size...
Might be worth trying out some different secondhand wheels and taller tyres first before spending the money on changing your suspension ??
