XC90 brakes.
Had an XC90 T8 since December 2016. Also had a petrol XC90 for 3 weeks in Florida last summer. On my T8 despite driving in B, we find that the brakes are not very responsive, you need quite a lot of pedal travel before there is any bite. Both the wife and I find this is the case and the collision systems often kick in. Didn't find this on the car I had in the summer, previously drove an X5 40d.

Never tried a T8, but I think car makers are still early on with getting the breaks right in hybrids and electrics. I had the same issue you describe in my last Prius - no bite at all for a big part of travel then your brain panics and you over break. On current i3 breaks/tyres are completely inadequate compared to how insanely it accelerates but at least electric breaking is very strong and adequate for 90% driving - again I really need to step on them to get them to bite. Climbing into D5 you certainly get a much more natural response to break input. Give them 5-10 more years to get this right with hybrids.

I've had a T8 for a similar period and never really found an issue with the breaks. I've only relatively recently started using B mode and find when I switch to it there is an immediate noticeable slowing down (relative to the speed of the car at the time I engage B).
As an aside - are you meant to drive in B, or just flip to it when slowing down / wanting to engine break? I do the latter as when I've driven in B (i.e. forgetting to switch back to D) I felt the car be sluggish, go into higher revs quicker (when in petrol). |

I do find the brakes a little 'wooden', which I believe is down to the regenerative braking system setup in the T8 (correct me if I'm wrong) but can't say I've noticed more pedal travel than my last car or my wife's car (both BMWs).
On the issue of B drive mode, although it does help braking, isn't its primary function to help add charge back to the battery without use of the brakes? I recall the manual seemed to predominately mention this. |

My brakes are ok now I have got used to them, but my Mercedes was a lot more responsive. Sometimes I feel they are not going to stop me quick enough at a junction and have to apply more pressure than anticipated. I just assumed this was comfort mode making them feel soft even though I have Polestar.

The brake setup on a T8 are is completely different to a D5 and T6 engine xc90,
The brake pedal on a T8 has no direct connection to the brake servo until it is almost on the floor, it uses the electric motor in the rear axle for the majority of the braking even when in D but it can just be felt more when in B, The pedal has a actuator that is ment to mimic a real pedal although in reality it is nothing like, You do have to alter your driving style slightly with a hybrid to get the most out of it
