Default Contisilent tyre puncture & repair

first puncture in the 20" ContiSilent.
Tiny screw in the tread - I thought 'repair it'....

Kwik Fit - "no way - it's a run flat" (despite me telling them it isn't and it CAN be repaired), as per the manufacturer's pdf page 9 - 14

http://blobs.continental-tires.com/w...nload-data.pdf

Volvo North London - "we don't repair tyres Sir - we only replace them with new ones" - (at £347 each)

Three independent and two other franchises - various comments like "oh yeah, they are the self sealing ones - Nah, we can't do them" (Do you get it? 'self - sealing' !!)
"no tyres in the country - it'll be 9 days from Germany"

So I removed the wheel and put on the 'space saver' - photographs attached - that just did not look right - and drove the wheel to an East Volvo dealer - repaired on the spot for £30 and the tyre - which has done 9k miles, according to the nice people at Volvo - is "as good as the day it went on" - with no tread wear.

I think the space saver is a touch small! Great that you could repair the tyre though, saved a hell of a lot!

If I need tyres I always buy them from Camskill and get them fitted by local garage, they seem to have the best prices, those ContiSilents (if they're 275/45 R20's) come in at £207 inc VAT.

I properly hate Kwik Fit with a passion. Unfortunately mine is a Lex lease car and I have to use them.....

What size is your spacesaver and was it an original accessory in the boot? It looks too small to be functional.

Good place to mount 2 of them. I have a single foam extinguisher mounted neatly on the LHS, bolted through the battery cover. Sits out of the way and a dodle to fit.

Glad you managed to get a repair. This was my concern with the XC90 seemingly to have to have specific specialist tyres that are costly if they need replacing after a puncture. This is the problem with having to have a sticking plaster to cover up an issue.

Hmm...could the space saver be any smaller!?!? Appreciate you've pictured it on gravel, but looks like the mudflap would be trailing on the ground!!
