The only way to test them is with VIDA.
Or use the dipstick and prove to yourself you’ve enough oil in the sump?

I'm happy the level is right but I want to know that should it drop suddenly whilst running and with the lack of a pressure switch that it would work. Which I'm not sure it is at the minute. It's more my paranoia playing up if anything else haha.

Cheers

So I've had Vida on it at a local indi and the oil level sensor wasn't even recognised. His thoughts were maybe it's fitted but not used in my version or it needs a software update. Anyone had a similar problem?

Cheers

Is there a sensor in the bottom of the sump ? have you a normal dipstick ? Have you a short grey plastic "service " dipstick down on the front of the block by the sump?

Hi, yes there's a triangular shaped sensor at the bottom of the sump and a normal dipstick. Could not see another.

Cheers

If you are ever changing the oil just put in 5.7 litres and you will be ok , it should correspond to 2/3 up the XXXXXXXX mark on the dipstick ....

It's at the 3rd X from the top atm. Just wouldn't know if it dropped on a run. Appreciate it's unlikely but if it's there I would like it to work

Cheers

i rely on my sensor working due to not having any where flat to actually check the oil level and when i do find some where level like a car park or garage i get people asking questions or just standing there watching me, i hate it.

I was getting an ‘ECM-5660 Oil level sensor’ code when I checked my XC90. I removed 1.3 litres of overfilled oil to bring it down to the top mark but still had the error code, so removed another 0.7 litres to bring the level half way down the dipstick and the code is now gone

There was a software update a couple of years ago where the maximum allowable volume was around the 2/3 level on the dipstick. Anything above this increased the risk of auto-dieseling and there should be a complaint from the system.
