XC70 Allignment issues
Hello
Apologies if this doesn't make sense. A few weeks back I had the Lower control arms replaced on my car, when I got it back I noticed it needed the alignment doing, I booked it into Halfords as its right by my work. I got a call an hour later saying we can't do the alignment as it looks like the either the track rods or toe rods are fitted the wrong way round as in Right on Left and Left on right, he said it looks like someone has removed the steering rack at some point and put it on the wrong way round, I asked if this was from the control arms and he said no it will be from the rack being removed.. Is what he said a possibility? Cheers Greg |

It is impossible to install a rack 'the wrong way'. Maybe not the correct tie rod ends ? How was tire wear with the old wishbones ?

yes there is a post on here with pictures xc and v70 wishbones are definately differant and although they can be fitted it throws all steering alignment way out part nos can be cross referanced with vida or go to a good parts suplier who knows the differance.

As mentioned above, the xc and v control arms (wishbones) are different - the subframe mounting end is the same but the length to the ball joint mount at the other end is longer on the xc version. If yours has v ones fitted then I would expect the camber to be way out - unless they 'adjusted' that too!
The rack itself can't have been fitted 'the wrong way round', but it's possible the rack may have been replaced with a sh one from a v70 or s60 which, given the shorter control arms also have shorter inner or out track rods, can't remember which. The shorter reach of the rods might mean there isn't enough adjustment to set the toe correctly and you're running too much toe-out (wheels look 'splayed' from the front).
