V70 warped headliner
Hi All
I've bought a cheap 2006 V70 D5 which needs some work. One thing I failed to notice until I got it home is a warped headliner. This is not the usual fabric seperating from the backing board - more like the backing board itself has warped resulting in it bellying out above the rear seat. Tried pushing up on it and just bounces back. Anyone seen this before? Cheers George |

Sounds as though water has got into the headliner, either from the sharks fin aerial or the rear hinges.

Sounds plausible. It doesn't have an external aerial but maybe someone in the past has blasted the tailgate shut with a pressure washer or left the boot open in heavy rain. It's all bone dry with no staining or musty smells though. Strange.

2003 XC70 buckled headliner
I left all my windows open last summer and we had a heavy rain event with winds. As a result of this the interior of the car became very wet and the headliner around the opening where the alarm module sits, just above the front seatbacks has buckled down. I was hoping that it would "unbuckle" when it dried, but no such luck.
Is there a method where a watersoluble glue of some kind can be soaked in to make it soft again and then allowed to dry while kept in shape? I have salvaged a headliner from a 2003 V70 and looking at it the corrugated cardboard backing is not very sturdy. This spare one has some limited buckling in the same area but the foam backed fabric is damaged and of the wrong colour. I had planned to replace the fabric but fear that the relatively flimsy shell may not take the beating.. I have done this in the past on a Range Rover but there the shell was a sturdy GRP and not the corrugated carton of the Volvo. Has anybody got ideas on how best to deal with this? I have looked for somebody supplying a new shell but have had no luck so far. Volvo in Shrewsbury are not interested... |
