centre console trim from a 780
I need the parts to fit a double DIN stereo into my 940 centre console as per this thread if anyone is breaking a 780.
http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=126351 If you want to swop to a single din head unit i am happy to swop for the bits that are in mine. |

I think I should probably at this point point out that the 780 was never sold on the UK market. As far as I know, it was only available in the US and a few European markets such as France, Belgium, Italy, the Netherlands and Sweden. It was never available RHD but with the correct part nos, your local Volvo dealer will be able to order the parts.
You could try finding them second hand in the US but I would not hold any hope, only about 8000 of these were ever made. |

Just remove your console, cut the middle part, polish the inside, so that it looks double DIN space, and fix the unit. That`s all. I made it once in my 760 1986 (same as 940 panel) and in 760 1989, where it is already same as 960, but still not double DIN. The unit will hold by itself, or you will need some thin small plates or rubber to fix it on the sides. Looks really much better, than the original from 940.
In my case both units were fixed perfectly without any additional screws, e.t.c. Even without any additional fixing, just by itself. The negaive point - if you sell the car - you need to sell with the unit.... or new console :-) |

You cannot fit a double din in a 740 using the original plastic unless you want it to look ****e. The cigar lighter with tray is too big and so you need to remove that leaving you with a gap underneath the radio. Unless you are really good at moulding plastic and can manufacture a blanking plate or some such, it just won't work.
The 780 bits can be had from a dealer and do not cost much at all and the difference in look is amazing, trust me. |

But funnily enough some parts that one would expect to not to be available are available. For example (when I asked and/or bought): Carpets (still in 1986 original packaging!) Plastic dash pieces Auto levelling suspension Dash switches (like defrosting on/off & sunroof etc) Front of Equalizer
