T5 Whirring sound
Hi guys,
Picked up my nice new 96 T5 Auto today. Private buyer. Noticed a whirring as in brrrrrrrrr!!! rising and falling with revving. Any ideas, guys? Also only has one key. Any idea on cost of getting a spare? Car drives fine otherwise. Cheers, JON |

Thankx deathrider,
Key fobs will sort off the bay. Hope it's not gearbox! Thought bearing noise might be a noise based on the rotation of the particular wheel? This is increased with the engine revs, and dies away as you take your foot off, but you may only be in 1st/2nd! Have to go out and listen again. Thought it might be the turbo spooling up but it sounds quite slow, def not fast as a turbo would be. It's pi**ing down here, otherwise I'd have the bonnet up and the Mrs. revving it(once warmed!). Thanks for the ideas. Will try it tomorrow and see if I can pinpoint it. Other threads on here have suggested air con, water pump, as well as idle control valve!! Got a few things to look at! Thanks again, Jon |

Ok,
Update on the whirring. Been out again. Nothing at idle at all. Into drive, rev and pull away...if you take your foot off after acceleration, that's when you get the whirring...like a fan slowing down. It's quite quick dying away, just a second or 2. In normal driving, constant speed(same gear) there is no whirring! Strange. Any further thoughts gratefully rec'd. Thanks, Jon |
