I drove one back in 1988 - belonged to my boss at the time. He tried telling me it was the 8.32 (Ferrari 3.0V8 32v, quad cam) so as it sounded wrong for a V8, i sneaked a peek under the bonnet.
Also being a RHD, the handlebars were on the wrong side for a genuine 8.32 but considering he'd worked all over the world for some major manufacturers before semi-retiring and setting up a Ford dealership that later became Seat and Suzuki, it was plausible he knew the right people to get a RHD 8.32 "smuggled" into the country.

I kept quiet about knowing it was a Volvo engine under the bonnet of his "Ferrari-engined" Lancia though!

Lancia did go on to use their own V6, developed for the 156 i think but Fiat/Lancia didn't seem to use the GM platform (Cavalier Mk3, Saab 9000 and similar) for very long, certainly in comparison to other makers.

The 3.0 V6 used in the last Themas (as opposed to the previous PRV 2.8) was simply a rebadged Alfa unit. And that engine actually dates back to the Alfa 6 - another big Italian saloon that most have never heard of, let alone seen in the UK due to its rarity......

Yes - sorry - had a "brain-fart" and forgot to say Alfa 156, just said it was Lancias but at that time they were all owned by each other so i was still sort of right, despite said brain-fart!

I've heard of the Alfa 6 - wasn't that like a Flavia saloon on steroids to look at even though a different animal under the skin?

Even less known fact - Alfa 155 DTM used PRV block, very well concealed to resemble Busso - the "real" Alfa V6 engine.

For me the original (pre-facelift) Alfa 6 looked very much like an E23 7-series with its shark nose, twin headlamps and corner indicators set in a black grille and a kink in the C-pillar.....perhaps that was intentional as the Alfa was launched only 2 years after the BMW.....

We're talking about the same car then Kev :

Now imagine this on steroids :

Think you can see what i was trying to describe!

Later (Series 2) version of the Alfa 6 always reminded me of the Fiat 130 :

That, in turn, always reminded me of the similar aged Dodge Challenger :

I find that a tad ironic as Fiat now own Chrysler!

Now that is a very well kept secret. So there's a link from PRV to Alfa Romeo as well as sister company Lancia then? Thanks for that.

So why did Alfa use that block as opposed to their own for this particular engine?

Apparently it allowed for a better induction system and under homologation rules, had to be from a production engine. Full list of vehicles (including some race cars with 600+bhp) that the PRV engine found its way into at the bottom and also full explanation of Alf using the PRV in the DTM series :

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/V6_PRV_engine

Now where can i find a bi-turbo engine?????
